Our Commitment to our Staff and Customers

JA Removals & Storage Ltd was established in 2016. Each year has shown a continuous growth in the removals industry, although a fairly new business the team are not so new, our staff either carry years of experience or have been trained to a high standard to ensure we continue be known as one of the most reliable and recommended 5 star removals team in our field.

Although our number of staff are below the required Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 we still follow all the Health & Safety steps and systems needed for a much larger business. 

Health & Safety at Work Act 1974

If you employ more than five members of staff, it is a legal requirement to have a Health and Safety Policy Statement. A health and safety policy statement sets out how you manage health and safety within your workplace.

It demonstrates your businesses attitude towards health and safety and the steps, arrangements and systems you have in place to ensure you comply with Health and Safety legislation. If you employ less than five staff, it is still good practice to complete a Health and Safety Policy Statement.

Our statement of general policy is:

  • To provide adequate control of the health and safety risks arising from our work
    activities
  • To consult with our employees on matters affecting their health and safety
  • To provide and maintain safe plant and equipment
  • To ensure safe handling and use of substances
  • To provide information instruction and supervision for employees
  • To ensure all employees are competent to do their tasks, and to give them adequate
    training
  • To prevent accidents and cases of work-related ill health
  • To maintain safe and healthy working conditions
  • To review and revise this policy as necessary at regular intervals

We believe that everyone is responsible for good environmental performance and standards as well as incorporating considerations into all our business activities.

Below are the JA Removals & Storage Ltd key principles that help provide a clear framework to help us set our goals and objectives to promote innovation, best practice and continuous improvement in environmental performance.  This will enable the business to establish, deliver and maintain a positive culture that achieves the performance that we always aspire to.  We:

  • Efficiently manage the risks when work activities are carried out, and improve sites environment standards by leading by example;
  • Ensure employees have the skills and competencies to contribute to developing a sustainable environment within the company;
  • Encourage open and honest discussion with employees, community and stakeholders to challenge performance in a positive constructive way that can help the company achieve the objectives set out for health , safety and environment;
  • Communicate effectively to raise awareness of environmental risks;
  • Monitor and review our environmental performance, to ensure that we reach the highest standards expected on reaching ISO 14001, by having a robust management system in place that measures this performance

Our Commitment to Safe Disposal of Unwanted Items

The Site Manager/Agent shall formulate and implement a specific waste management plan prior to any disposal activities taking place. The Supervisor will always suggest a viable and helpful way of discarding items that are not needed to be transported. The waste management plan will address the following issues:

  • Safety/environmental requirements relating to the waste expected on site;
  • Waste avoidance – typically the storage of materials;
  • Waste minimisation – typically involving good housekeeping of materials;
  • Unwanted Furniture and Items – To provide local charities that supply furniture to homeless and third sector organisations;
  • Information to the customer to give away items for free on the internet using social media;
  • Waste characterisation and treatment if necessary;
  • Management of hazardous waste – including the need for registration of the site as a hazardous waste producer;
  • Waste recycling opportunities;
  • The necessity for checks on waste carriers and waste managers licences;
  • Waste transfer notes;
  • Roles and responsibilities on site; and
  • Mechanism to capture waste metrics for reporting.

We at JA Removals & Storage Ltd are developing processes and management system to meet the Quality Management requirements of ISO EN 9001.  The processes and management system also incorporates ISO EN 14001 and BS OHSAS 18001 systems.  This helps provide the business one effective and seamless integrated management system, designed to deliver our contractual and regulatory obligations by complying with relevant legislation and related standards in a safe, environmentally and sustainability manner.

JA Removals & Storage Ltd has developed its expertise since its establishment and its aim is to achieve a high standard of service at all times.  We:

  • Provide our customers with goods and services to the agreed requirement in accordance with details and price
  • Ensure Directors, Management and staff are responsible for Quality control through their Quality Management Systems, seeking improvement by constant review
  • Co-ordinate with suppliers and customers to achieve high standards of expertise
  • Provide effective and competent based training to assist all personnel always achieve, the high standards required.

All personnel within the Company are responsible and take accountability for the quality and service of work carried.  JA Removals & Storage Ltd have a responsibility for ensuring the quality of their work and that of any persons under their supervision. These responsibilities are defined within the Company procedures.

The Object of our Policy

In recognising the potential risk of impaired safety performance by the consumption of alcohol, and/or the use/misuse of non-prescription drugs or substances, it is the policy of JA Removals & Storage Ltd to prohibit their use or consumption at work, or during periods prior to working hours where the effects would continue during working hours.

  • To encourage a safer and healthier working environment for our employees, contractors and agency workers
  • To ensure everyone is aware of the acceptable standards
  • To ensure that anyone suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs is treated in a fair and consistent manner
  • To ensure that anyone who advises their line manager that they have a drug or alcohol related problem is given the necessary support to resolve their problems
  • Where applicable to support the specific requirements of our clients and the market sector in which we work

Implementing the Policy

To implement the policy we shall:

  • Enforce the arrangements published within the Company Management System
  • Carry out screening when contractually required and when such screening is warranted by virtue of circumstances
  • Recognise that the ill effects of substance abuse are regarded as a medical condition and that relapse may occur even during rehabilitation
  • Require employees to adopt a self-help approach to drug or alcohol related problems
  • Provide support and encouragement to those employees who voluntarily seek to overcome a drug or alcohol related problem
  • Maintain strict confidentiality, within the constraints of the law, on the drug or alcohol problems of individual employees
  • Prohibit possession or dealing in illegal substances in the work environment
  • Enforce appropriate action in accordance with the relevant disciplinary procedure where warranted by circumstances
  • Ensure that our sub-contractors are continually required to have an adequate drugs and alcohol policy
  • Take positive steps to ensure that persons do not report for work if they are unfit through alcohol and/or drug abuse, using suspension where applicable
  • Ensure that our clients’ requirements take precedence over those of JA Removals & Storage Ltd if the client dictate
  • Review this policy annually as part of the overall Health and Safety Policy

Do you cover/protect furniture?

Yes, we provide all types of packaging and wrapping for your items when moving and in transit. We have protectors for mattresses & beds, sofa padded protected furniture, TV and digital equipment wrapping, removal blankets and furniture pallet wrap. These keep all your items safe from damage in transit.
